My survey of Christian millennials reveals that many feel disconnected from the church and are leaving despite a genuine desire to deepen their faith.
Some who left experienced a culture that deprioritized rigorous spiritual conversations. The church leaders they could have debated feared that entertaining questions against essential doctrines seriously threatened the church's existence and unity. The permissive version of the gospel pandered by new-age prosperity preachers has had such an effect, thus undermining the sovereignty of God. Meanwhile, radical atheists have been intensifying their plots to eradicate Western conceptions of God.
Some who remain in the church but feel disconnected from the faith have witnessed hypocrisy and scandals. The disconnection from the church also stems from a lack of theological depth among Christian youths, which Pentecostalism, with its emphasis on charismatic spiritual gifts, is ill-equipped to address. These issues make it challenging for young adults in the church to maintain a strong faith in modern realities.
Moreover, Christian millennials have yet to develop sustainable spiritual habits that integrate faith with the pressures of modern life, including work, relationships, distractions, and doubt.
The result is that we often feel that the church is shallow or inconsistent. We question our existence, doubt the scriptures, battle burnout, and quietly drift from the gospel. Those who wish to return to it are unsure how.
My newsletter explores questions of faith, addresses the ethical implications of technology, and seeks economic wisdom rooted in biblical principles for millennials seeking faithfulness. The key themes I explore include:
Faith and secularism
Economics and ethics
Truth and Discernment
Technology and Humanity
Civic Engagement and Christian Values
Engaging deeply with Christian thought is the most effective way to stay rooted in God. It's the key to thriving with a deep sense of divine purpose, mental strength, and spiritual confidence.
I want to share with you some intellectual and spiritual nourishment to help us navigate the complexities of modern life. My references will be timeless wisdom and contemporary insights, equipping you with practical ideas and enduring practices that foster spiritual growth and resilience.
