A poor man's food is sweet.
His hopes are within reach.
His heart is mighty strong.
And he's never double-minded.
The winds favour his whims.
He's never lost a fight his forces favoured.
He needn't count his blessings,
For no fear, no foe withers them away.
But the man is his problem.
He rises and falls where he stands.
Note:
I explored the life of a man who, despite his poverty, finds joy in his circumstances, the idea that true richness comes from within. This man is resilient for not dwelling on his lack.
Chinua Achebe once said, “If a man says yes, his Chi also says yes.” So he seems aligned with the world around him and is grateful. But his internal struggle pits him against himself as he grapples with the highs and lows of his emotions and choices.
Sometimes we're aligned with the universe but not with our inner selves.
